New car registrations in May were 14 per cent up on the same month last year and, in the first five months of this year, there were 89,534 new car sales, a 14.4 per cent jump on 1987.
Ford topped the cumulative five-month market with 10,792 cars or 12.1 per cent. Toyota and Opel were in second and third places with 10,378 and 9,712 cars, or 11.6 and 10.8 per cent respectively. Ford also topped May sales with 2,466 cars or 14.2 per cent.
