3COM says it is planning to bring the benefits of remote access and teleworking within the reach of most medium to large Irish companies. The firm has introduced a product, the SuperStack II Remote Access 3000 family, which will be available in Ireland at the end of February. 3Com claims it offers businesses affordable functionality, previously found only in high-end solutions.
"This new product means that off-site workers will be able to use the company network with the same security and access as if they were sitting in the office," says Mr Brendan Garry, country manager at 3Com Ireland, which employs more than 1,000 people. In the past companies have had to invest in relatively expensive chassis-based systems which made true remote access the preserve of the largest organisations.
According to 3Com, the SuperStack II takes into account the type of security necessary to enable electronic commerce, extranets and teleworking. The solution supports both analogue calls and ISDN connection on every port automatically sensing what type of call it is receiving. This eliminates the need for expensive external modems and ISDN adapters. The new integrated platform is also said to allow easy Internet/intranet access, e-mail, LAN and WAN file sharing, fax and telephony services over public and private networks.
