Trading in Bankers Trust shares was suspended yesterday amid speculation the company would be bought, possibly, analysts said, by the US insurance and finance group Travelers. Neither company would comment on the speculation.
Bankers Trust was up 10-3/16 and trading at 128 1/2 before trading was frozen at midday in advance of an announcement by the company. Bankers Trust is the seventh-largest investment bank in the United States, with offices in 50 countries and assets of 130 billion dollars. It has an office in the IFSC called BT Trustee Company which provides trustee, custody and administration services. At the end of last year it employed 20 people.
