TreeHugger: http://www.treehugger.com/
A blog focused on environmental issues which calls itself TreeHugger could never be accused of having an inflated sense of self- importance. Green issues have become more important for the business and technology sector and not just because of the Green element to our current Government.
Over the last year, technology companies have increasingly started talking about how they are reducing the carbon footprint of their technologies.
In May, IBM announced plans to spend $1 billion a year on energy-efficient technology. While such initiatives are partly driven by a desire for good PR, the bottom line is that with energy costs rising globally, corporate customers simply cannot afford to implement new technology that guzzles electricity.
As a result TreeHugger is essential reading to keep track of the intersection of green issues and technology.
Of most relevance is its science and technology category which covers issues such as how the high price of copper is affecting telecommunications companies, the latest research on climate change or even the failure of Irish firm Steorn to demonstrate its "free energy" technology in London recently.
Each week it also profiles an "EcoGeek of the Week", usually a technology executive working in an environmental role or just someone who has embraced technology to be more green.
It has also published a series of "How to go Green" guides, which, while they can be US-specific, provide useful information on making your workplace, your electronics and even your sex-life more environmentally friendly. Add to that regular podcasts and videocasts and TreeHugger is clearly the leading blog covering the environment.
With 24 new posts each day and an archive of more than 10,000, not everything that TreeHugger writes about is going to appeal, but even if you aren't in the Al Gore camp on climate change, anything that suggests how we can reduce our energy costs has got to be worth a read.
