Irish technology firm Servecast provided one online bookmaker with a novel way to keep punters busy despite the foot-and-mouth outbreak.

The media firm recently provided UK betting company Blue Square with the technology required to broadcast live hamster dragster racing.

Punters were able to log on and bet on hamsters completing circuits around their wheels.

The event was fully monitored and the furry stars were looked after by a qualified animal handler.
