British Midland appoints new marketing manager

British Midland has appointed Ms Bairbre Drury-Byrne as its marketing manager for the Republic

British Midland has appointed Ms Bairbre Drury-Byrne as its marketing manager for the Republic. She was previously employed with the publishing company, New Island Books.

Ms Drury-Byrne, who holds business qualifications from Trinity College and Dublin City University, will be responsible for marketing the company's Heathrow-Dublin and East Midlands Dublin routes.

The managing director of Apple Computers, Mr Padraic Allen, has left the company and is taking up a post with Dell.

Mr Allen, managing director since 1987, has been appointed vice-president of Dell's European manufacturing division and will be based in Limerick.

Mr Allen was a long-serving employee of Apple, starting his career there in the early 1980s.

The IAWS Group has appointed Mr Owen Killian, to the new position of chief operations officer. The post means Mr Killian will report directly to the chief executive, Mr Philip Lynch.

Mr Killian was formerly assistant to the chief executive a position he held since the group first listed on the Stock Exchange in 1988.

Mr Ray Gordon is leaving his post as head of public relations at Irish Life to set up his own consultancy, Gordon and Associates. He will continue to advise Irish Life in this capacity.

Mr Gordon was press officer with the Progressive Democrats during the period of the party's coalition with Fianna Fail from 1989 to 1992.

Mr David Forde, from Galway, has been appointed international marketing manager with Murphys. He has moved from Cork to Amsterdam with the task of implementing Murphys international brand marketing strategy.

In an associated appointment, Mr Peter Bray, has taken up the post of Irish group brand manager.

Mr Bray, a Canadian, has been new brands marketing director with Heineken in the US for the last few years. He previously worked with Pepsi Cola and McDonalds.

Esat Telecom has appointed Mr Sean Corkery as chief operations manager. Mr Corkery is leaving his position as senior vice president, worldwide operations, with AST Computer.

A native of Co Cork and a member of the Information Society Commission, he will have responsibility for the day-to-day operations of the company.

Mr Harry Thompson and Mr Ciaran Mulligan have been appointed as directors of Kindlon Insurances, following their departure from Willis Coroon Ireland.
