A total of 19,898 new cars were registered in Northern Ireland during the three months from the beginning of July to the end of September 1999, an increase of 5 per cent over the same period the previous year. Ford was the most popular make, accounting for 14 per cent of total new car registrations, followed by Renault (13 per cent) and Vauxhall (10 per cent). More than 2,800 new and used light goods vehicles were registered for the first time during the quarter, an increase of 9 per cent over the previous year.
