Staff at Cellular 3, which provides the Imagine mobile phone service in Ireland, will stage a protest outside the Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation today. In a statement, staff said their jobs were under threat due to the regulator's failure to enforce fair competition in the Irish mobile market. Last week, 140 staff at the company and around 100 employees of agents were put on protective notice. The move followed a decision by Eircell to end an agreement under which Imagine had been buying and reselling discounted airtime.
