A FORMER secondary school and convent on a site of 1.03 hectares (2.55 acres) at Kilmore Road in Artane, Dublin 5, are to be offered for sale by private treaty.

Siobhan Doyle of DTZ Sherry FitzGerald is seeking €3.5 million for the property which may be sold in one or two lots.

The school was set up by the Sisters of St John of God in 1967 but closed in June 2007 because of falling student numbers. The Sisters continue to operate a primary school on an adjoining site.

The secondary school is a one and two-storey building with a floor space of 2,645sq m (28,470sq ft). It stands on a site of 0.93 of a hectare (2.3 acres) and has ample car-parking to the front and side.

The former convent is a detached two-storey building extending to 325sq m (3,498sq ft). It has living quarters on the ground floor and 10 single bedrooms upstairs. The building stands on a site of 0.10 of a hectare (0.25 of an acre).

The Z15 zoning on the site under the Dublin city development plan offers many permitted and open-for-consideration uses including education, medical and healthcare, hotel, childcare and residential. Siobhan Doyle says that with flexible sale conditions and an asking price reflective of current market conditions, the sites were sure to generate a good level of interest. Given the superb location and extensive frontage of 110 metres on to Kilmore Road, the properties would no doubt appeal to a range of users such as education, medical/healthcare, nursing homes/retirement village, hotel, childcare and residential.

Sister Teresa Byrne, provincial leader, says that the proceeds of the sale will be used to fund the the redevelopment of St John of God Retreat Centre in Ballyvaloo, Co Wexford and other ministries in Ireland, Pakistan and South Africa.
