Retail LeaseOne of the best located and well-known retail buildings in Galway city centre - Kennys Bookshop & Art Gallery at High Street and Middle Street - is to be offered for letting following a decision by the owners to relocate to new premises in the Galway docks.
Of late, Kennys has been selling more books on the world wide web than in the store and, once it relocates, it will continue to operate its art gallery at the new docks premises.
DTZ Sherry FitzGerald is quoting a rent of €400,000 for the retail building which has a floor area of 652.17sq m (7,020sq ft).
The book shop fronts on to High Street and runs through to the art gallery opening out on to Middle Street.
The three-storey building was renovated and upgraded in 1996 and subsequently won an architectural award.
The likelihood is that the building will be rented by one of a number of international fashion retailers, such as H & M, Zara and the Arcadia Group, which has been looking for a suitable outlet in Galway city.
Big book chains - like Waterstones and Hodges Figgis - might also avail of the opportunity to open in Galway.
High Street is one of the busiest streets in a city where tourism continues right through the winter months.
Aidan Gavin of DTZ Sherry FitzGerald said it was very rare that a premises of this size and renown became available in one of the principal shopping areas of Galway city centre.
