THE FIRST national forestry, woodland and bio energy show to be held in Ireland for 14 years will take place next weekend in the grounds of Birr Castle, Co Offaly.

It is being supported by Liffey Distributors, a Blanchardstown-based company that supplies a range of forest, garden and construction products including those by Husqvarna.

The Forestry, Woodland and Bio Energy Show coincides with the International Year of Forests, which was announced by Unesco to raise awareness about conservation and sustainable management and development of all types of forest. The Birr show is expected to showcase the potential of the Irish forestry and timber industry which covers almost one million acres of land.

The event director David Wilkinson said it was hoped to capitalise on the strength of the industry and the international interest in Irish forestry.
