€1m for canalside bar

A well known traditional bar, The Hatch Inn, on the Grand Canal at Hazelhatch, Newcastle, Co Dublin, has come on the market following the death of the owner Patricia Lee.

Lisney is seeking €1 million for the early 19th century bar which is to be sold along with the adjoining lands extending to 5.62 acres. It has obvious redevelopment potential because of the popularity of the area with day trippers and boating enthusiasts.

Tom Taylor seeks shops

The German casual wear brand for men and women, Tom Taylor, is on the lookout for suitable stores in Dublin and in a number of provincial shopping centres.

The company has opened shops at Johnston Court in Sligo and Bedford Row in Limerick.

James Quinlan of Bannon, who is advising Tom Taylor, said they are seeking single level stores of up to 278sq m (3,000sq ft) and would also consider units of 92sq m (1,000sq ft) for denim businesses in strong locations. They would also consider going into partnership with upmarket department stores on a concession basis.

Holland & Barrett expands

Health food specialist Holland & Barrett has opened two further outlets at Shop Street in Galway and Main Street in Letterkenny. Despite the slowdown in consumer spending, the company plans to open five more stores in the Republic this year.

Keith Ruane of Colliers Jackson-Stops says that the rent on all new acquisitions would be based on turnover only, a trend that was now commonplace in the market.
