Property developer Padraig Drain, one of the owners of Jervis Shopping Centre in Dublin's north inner city, has emerged as the successful bidder for a development site of a quarter of an acre in Malahide village in north Co Dublin.

The businessmen paid €907,000 for the site at the junction of Strand Street and Old Street, about 300m from the main commercial hub and 200m from Malahide Marina Village.

It has extremely broad zoning to include retail use, offices and a residential development. Planning permission was previously granted in 2009 for a four-storey over-basement development comprising medical practice and pharmacy on the ground floor, medical care facility on the first floor and offices on the second floor along with four penthouses apartments on a third floor level.
