DUBLIN’S new rock college, BIMM Dublin, is to open its new college on Francis Street in the heart of Dublin’s Liberties. The area has already produced some of Ireland’s most talented musicians and, according to the promoters, is now set to bring forward the next generation of music industry professionals when the college opens its doors in September, offering a four year BA (Hons) degree course in modern music in partnership with the Dublin Institute of Technology.
BIMM Dublin will be based in a two-storey 650sq m (7,000sq ft) building at 62 Francis Street, where €1.5 million is being spent on up-to-date facilities. It will have seven large teaching studios, each accommodating 20 students, and a live performance room to hold around 100 students. There will also be a range of private tutorial rooms, a student common room, staff room and offices. Registration for the coming year has exceeded 400 students applying for the course through the CAO system. Peter Browne of Brown Corrigan Chartered Surveyors advised the owner of the building while Michael Healy of Savills acted for the college.
