BRIEFS:Cork city's oldest bank building, the 1839-built Cork Savings Bank opposite the City Hall on Lapps Quay, is to be offered for sale through the Lisney agency at €1.2 million.
Permanent TSB ceased trading from the classical limestone building last November as part of its rationalisation programme. The sale will include an adjoining period building at 16 Parnell Street which will bring the overall floor area up to 707sq m (7,610sq ft).
Cork Hoteliers may bid for Barry’s
Barry’s Hotel in Dublin’s north inner city, for decades associated with the GAA and county football and hurling teams, is expected to make in excess of €900,000 when it goes for sale this week through agents CBRE.
The 32-bedroom hotel is located in two extended Georgian houses on Great Denmark Street, a short distance from Parnell Square. There is a bar and function rooms on the ground floor.
John Hughes of CBRE says the hotel will be of interest to existing hotel operators, investors and others who would consider alternative uses for the buildings.
Site on offer for €1.2 million
Ross Shorten of Lisney is guiding €1.2 million for a well located development site on the Ballymahon Road in Athlone, Co Westmeath, which is only 0.5km from junction 10 of the M6 Athlone bypass and about 2.5km from the town centre.
The 2.26 hectares (5.58 acres) has full planning permission until 2014 for a neighbourhood centre incorporating retail facilities, medical centre and residential units.
The site is expected to be of interest to food retailers and investors. The land was once the grounds of the Buccaneers Rugby Club.
Tesco to open express store
The scramble for new trading opportunities in the south Dublin suburbs continues with Tesco Express the latest to land a new store in Ranelagh.
The British multiple has agreed to lease the former Lenehans hardware store on Main Street where it will be paying a rent of €50,000 for the ground floor area which extends to 278sq m (2,992 sq ft). A planning application to enlarge the store was turned down. Jason Miller handled the negotiations for the landlord.
A short distance away, the Cosgrave Group is redeveloping the former Russells snooker hall in order to accommodate a new Lidl discount store.
Not only will the two new traders have licences to sell liquor but they will face competition from the nearby Esso filling station which has also acquired a similar licence.
