RetailMarket:Classic Furniture is to open its first Munster store at City Gate Mahon, the €140 million retail and office complex beside Mahon shopping centre in Cork.
The Dublin trader also has stores in Kilkenny and Sligo where it stocks a wide range of contemporary and traditional furniture made in countries from Italy to China.
It will occupy a store of 1,579sq m (17,000sq ft) in Cork's premier shopping facility when the fit-out is completed in about three months.
Mahon is the largest shopping destination in Munster with over 30,000sq m (322,917sq ft) of retail space. It is adjacent to the Jack Lynch Tunnel and the South Ring Road network, making it easily accessible from the city centre.
Joint agents Cohalan Downing and CB Richard Ellis are quoting rents of €323 per sq m (€30 per sq ft) for remaining stores which are aimed at companies selling kitchens, tiles, homewares, bathrooms, domestic appliances, lighting, furniture and office equipment.
City Gate has been designed as Cork's first high-end homes and lifestyle destination. The retail units have the advantages of a strong profile on to the Mahon Link Road which runs between Mahon and the city centre. City Gate's distinctive courtyard-style architecture has created a shopping enclave of considerable style and comfort.
A centrally located café is operated by Nosh & Coffee. Each of the retail units has floor-to-ceiling glazing. There are 750 basement car-parking spaces and high quality offices overhead. Access from the basement car-park to the central plaza at ground floor level is via escalators, glazed lifts and staircases.
Some of the office space in the first phase is already occupied and a further 4,645sq m (50,000sq ft) is under negotiation, according to the joint agents.
