Directory services provider Conduit has been lobbying the Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation for the role of manager of the National Directory Database, function Eircom has fulfilled since 1999.
Control of the database would mean that Conduit would no longer have to pay Eircom for access to the directory information that is central to Conduit's operations, as is currently the case. Instead, other domestic and international operators would pay Conduit for the service.
