Frankfurt DAX: 3995.66 (+36.33)
Germany's share market pared gains in late electronic trade to end almost unchanged after sentiment was hit late in the day by losses on the Dow Jones Industrial index on Wall Street.
The DAX index spent the day trying to regain its composure after tumbling nearly 2.8 per cent in bourse dealings on Tuesday. Dealers say worries about higher German interest rates will keep the market under pressure.
Paris CAC-40: 2871.70 (+2.44)
The Paris bourse was also boosted by the strengthening dollar and rose sharply in afternoon trading, wiping out its morning losses.
It later fell back somewhat but still managed to close just on the plus side. "It's the dollar - don't look any further," said a broker, referring to the change in market sentiment.
