The Dow Jones Industrial Average surged past 11,000 yesterday, boosted by strong consumer and manufacturing data, barely a month after it passed the 10,000 benchmark.
The index closed at 11,014.69, up 225.65 points, a record high and the fastest move between 1,000-point milestones in history.
The Standard and Poor's 500 rose 19.45 to 1,354.63, and the Nasdaq composite index fell 7.27 to 2,535.58.
