New job vacancies for Irish professionals increased 9 per cent in March, according to the latest Morgan McKinley Irish Employment Monitor.
The research found that the number of new professional job openings rose from 8,462 in February to 9,246 last month.
Over the first quarter as a whole the monitor registered an 18 per cent jump in the number of professional positions available compared to the same period a year earlier.
Karen O’Flaherty, chief operations officer at Morgan McKinley – an Irish-owned global recruitment consultancy – said the March increase illustrated that the hiring market continued to improve.
She also noted that the average pace of the recruitment process improved during the first quarter , and that there was a greater commitment to hiring and job sign-off from employers.
Separately, the IrishJobs.iejobs index showed that the total number of jobs advertised online picked up by 4 per cent in the first quarter, snapping a six-month decline.
This uplift was driven by large gains in sectors such as production, manufacturing and materials, as well as science, pharmaceuticals and food. IT also continued on an upward trend.
International recruitment company Robert Walters released an interim statement yesterday showing a 10 per cent year-on-year jump in net fee income for the first quarter to £44.7 million.
The group, which has a Dublin base, said net fee income grew across all of regions despite a challenging backdrop.
