CYNAR PLC:LAOIS WASTE conversion company Cynar Plc has linked up with Loughborough University in the UK to optimise and develop its recycling process with the aim of being able to transform more types of plastics that are difficult to recycle into kerosene, diesel and light oil.
The firm already has one full-scale plant operating here and its first plant in the UK – where it has an €84 million contract with SITA and Suez Environment to build 10 in total – has been awarded full planning permission.
Researchers from the university’s chemistry department will carry out its RD using a lab-scale recycling plant built by Cynar.
Dr Steve Christie, who will be leading the research, said: “We are delighted to be able to play a part in the development of this exciting new technology.
“We will be analysing and identifying the chemicals involved and trying to understand more about their chemical mechanism as they are broken down so that the firm can optimise their systems.”
Cynar’s chief executive Michael Murray said: “We believe Loughborough University has the experience and proven capability to assist us in retaining our position as a global leader for the conversion of end-of-life plastics to liquid fuels.”
