Securities Trading Corporation founder and former Anglo Irish Bank director Tiernan O'Mahony is to take over as chairman of the new Pensions Board.

The board, named yesterday by Minister for Social Welfare Séamus Brennan, includes for the first time an insurance broker, Emer O'Flanagan, who is managing director of Priorité Consulting.

The other members of the board are: William Beausang, assistant secretary general of the Department of Finance; Anne Vaughan, principal officer, Department of Social Affairs; SIPTU equality officer Rosheen Callender: Irish Congress of Trade Unions industrial officer Fergus Whelan; Ibec assistant director Marie Daly; Michael O'Halloran, chief executive, Irish Senior Citizens' Parliament; consumers' representative John Dillane; Mary Wade and Rosalind Briggs from Mercer benefit consultants; Kevin Brabazon, chairman of Area Development Management; Julian Caplin of accountants Moore Stephens Caplin Meehan; Mary O'Donnell of Trinity College Dublin; Gerry Ryan, group secretary, Bord na Móna; Dervla Tomlin of Irish Life; and Tom Wright, formerly of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
