Name: Craig Bond
Age: 39
Personal details:
Once married, but now separated. He is from Perth in Western Australia, but now lives in Upp Hall, Hertfordshire. One of four children of jailed Australian tycoon, Alan Bond. Formerly a property developer and restaurateur, he was director of companies associated with his father's collapsed business empire.
Why he is in the news:
Has said he is the beneficial owner of Mir Oil Development Ltd, the British Virgin Islands registered company at the heart of the Bula Resources affair being investigated by the government-appointed inspector Mr Lyndon McCann. Mr Bond was to appear in the High Court on Wednesday to give evidence in support of his claim, but the case was adjourned indefinitely at his counsel's request. Similarly, a meeting with Mr McCann, due to take place on Tuesday, did not go ahead. An executive with a solicitor's firm in the Bahamas has now contacted Mr McCann and said he is the sole director of Mir Oil. It is understood the man has held this position since late last year and that he supports Mr Bond's contention that he is the owner of the company.
