The Margin cheered when Dublin was named the best city in Europe by Fortune magazine this week.
Also joining in the celebrations were Martin Naughton and Lochlann Quinn, the main movers behind the Merrion Hotel. Dublin's most expensive hotel was voted the best establishment in the city, despite being open only a few weeks, by the widely read US magazine.
Pity the hotel has not been receiving plaudits from Irish magazines.
Magill's idiosyncratic critic Helen Lucy Burke savaged the hotel the week before, when she said the rooms were too small, the view from the window was disappointing and there was no bidet to clean one's derriere. Ouch!
