Frankfurt DAX: 5018.67 (-69.46)
The Frankfurt share market suffered its sixth straight loss yesterday in what traders called a continuing consolidation, though losses were reduced thanks to some fading of fears of a US monetary policy tightening. Deutsche Telekom bucked the trend, gaining more than 7 per cent to 44.20 deutschmarks after the group reported an 18 per cent jump in first-quarter net profit.
Paris CAC-40: 3777.23 (+91.4)
French shares staged a lastminute push which extended the day's rally to virtually make up all the previous day's loss. The market was buoyed by the dollar and a recovery on Wall Street.
Brokers said the recovery was mainly technical.
Milan Mibtel: 22891 (+1050)
Italian stocks racked up solid gains in afternoon trade to end almost 5 per cent higher as investors went bargain hunting after Monday's sharp losses.
Among the biggest gainers were Olivetti, which ended 12 per cent higher at 2,245 lire.
