CRH can add to its cement manufacturing capacity and has already invested £13 million in a new cooler, according to its chief executive, Mr Don Godson. Responding to questions on the plans by The Sean Quinn Group to establish a new cement plant in Co Cavan, he said he could not rule out the possibility of over-capacity in the market. "That will depend on the growth of the market place." Although a planning application has not yet been lodged for a new plant, it is understood to have a capacity of one million tonnes per annum. Mr Godson said the group already has plenty of competition. "It is quite an exposed market," and Irish Cement has always been able to deal with competition, he said.
