Significant growth in demand for radio spectrum will require regulators to adopt a flexible approach towards managing and allocating spectrum, a paper released yesterday says.

The consultation paper, which was issued by telecoms regulator, Ms Etain Doyle, highlights the rapid growth in demand.

This will be driven by the growth in the Internet, ecommerce and the development of new technologies and services such as digital television.

The most popular parts of the radio spectrum are predicted to be those which can deliver broadband communications over mobile devices and fixed wireless communications.
