Hostilities vented at Snooker match

Speaking of the Citywest hotel, it is unlikely to hold fond memories for Finance Minister Mr McCreevy

Speaking of the Citywest hotel, it is unlikely to hold fond memories for Finance Minister Mr McCreevy. He was a guest at the finals of the Irish Masters Snooker Tournament last Sunday.

McCreevy was introduced to the audience by RTE's Michael Lyster, but was greeted by loud booing. Then he was introduced again to present the prizes. The reception was similar.

The Margin is at a loss to know why the Kildare man was greeted in such a hostile fashion . . . maybe its a Dublin v. Kildare factor.

Perhaps he should stick to horse-racing, where his appreciation for the sport, which he was able to demonstrate by lowering betting taxes, is more readily reciprocated by the fans.
