NI unemployment still at 58,000

The number of people unemployed in the UK fell overall by 20,000 in the three months to August but not a single person left the dole queues in Northern Ireland over the same period according to latest figures.

Official labour market data shows unemployment in the North remained at 58,000.

The North’s Minister for Enterprise Arlene Foster said the latest figures highlight the “ongoing impact that the recession has had on the Northern Ireland labour market”.

Borrowers pressed to agree new terms

Some of the largest borrowers involved in Nama say their banks put pressure on them to agree to more expensive financing terms before their loans transferred to the agency, according to a survey of Nama participants by the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

Live 95 radio profits down 40%

Pre-tax profits at the UTV-owned Limerick Live 95 radio station last year fell by 40 per cent from €1.79 million to €1 million, writes Gordon Deegan.
