Technology SAP awards
Two Irish technology projects have been recognised with international awards from industry giants Microsoft and SAP.
SpanishPoint Technologies picked up the Smart Client Development Partner of the Year award at Microsoft's Worldwide Partner Conference in Denver, Colorado. The award recognised the work it had done for the Irish Music Rights Organisation developing a collaborative workflow system based on Microsoft technologies including SharePoint, BizTalk, SQL Server and InfoPath.
SAP recognised ESB Independent Energy for its utilities-billing function which was implemented in 10 months without performance dips or problems. The ESB subsidiary won the European SAP Quality Award 2007 for companies with fewer than 500 employees.
Selatra's new Java contract
Cork-based mobile games company Selatra has won a contract with Iceland's leading mobile carrier Siminn to provide it with a Java games service.
Selatra's catalogue of games, which it licenses from developers around the world includes titles like Pac Man, Monopoly and Transformers.
Mozilla gains ground
The open source web browser Mozilla Firefox has continued to gain ground on Microsoft's Internet Explorer and is now used by 27.8 per cent of European users, according to a report from web survey specialists XiTi Monitor.
The French organisation's monitoring of European web traffic in early July found that the Irish are particularly keen on Firefox, with 38.6 per cent using it, up 55 per cent from March.
O2 in UK drops i-mode service
O2 in the UK is reported to be dropping its i-mode mobile web service due to a lack of user take-up. O2 Ireland said it has no plans to follow suit. "O2 Ireland remains committed to offering the i-mode service to its customers," a spokesman said, "and to its ongoing partnership with DoCoMo, developers of the i-mode service."
