Vouchers used for eBay, PayPal
3V vouchers, the online vouchers which can be accepted instead of credit cards, can now be used to open PayPal accounts, fund PayPal purchases on eBay and register as an eBay.ie seller. 3V vouchers can be used by more than 500,000 registered eBay users in Ireland.
Cost of Unix cited in survey
Cost is the main reason that businesses migrate from Unix to its open-source cousin Linux, according to 61 per cent of IT professionals. A survey carried out at Novell's recent open enterprise summit in Dublin also found that obsolescence (48 per cent) and support issues (39 per cent) are other key reasons for moving.
HP deal with Airtricity
HP Ireland has signed up with renewable energy supplier Airtricity as part of its goal to reduce its energy use by 20 per cent by the end of 2010. The Airtricity contract means almost 90 per cent of HP's energy use in Ireland is renewable.
Security fears over IT workers
Disgruntled employees are seen as almost as big a security threat as hackers and malware, according to a new survey of security threats held at Citrix's annual solutions seminar in Dublin. Employees were cited as a threat by 49 per cent of IT staff compared to 51 per cent for hackers.
Budget day tax website
Tax123.ie is a new website launching on Budget Day next Wednesday which will provide tax advice and tools to help with filing returns. Its Budget calculator will be available as a Facebook application.
O2 mobile websites
O2 Ireland customers can now create their own mobile websites using a tool from Waterford- based mobile web services company Nubiq. Its free mobile website creation service, Zinadoo, can now be accessed from the O2 Active mobile portal.
