Independent Insurance, the British publicly quoted company, has generated £30 million sterling (#47.23 million) in gross written premium in 2000 through its Irish branch.

The Dublin office broke even at the underwriting level in its first year of trading with the Irish operation the main driver of group growth.

The general insurance group reported a 42 per cent fall in operating profit yesterday to £40.1 million sterling, in line with previous announcements.
