As people digest the results of last week's election, the corporate world moves on, with attention this week focusing on results from Bank of Ireland and Eircom as well as interim data from Greencore.
Further afield, Friday's release of key US data including payrolls will be the climax for markets in the next week, which will get off to a quiet start, with the US and much of Europe shut today. In the euro zone, inflation, sentiment and growth numbers are unlikely to change expectations for a June rate hike.
The US releases - which also feature the Institute for Supply Management's manufacturing survey and the Federal Reserve's favourite inflation measure - will be scanned for clues on whether the economy is heading for a soft or hard landing and whether interest rate cuts are needed yet. Minutes from the Fed's May meeting, due on Wednesday, could also shed light on the monetary policy outlook.
For the euro zone, interest rate markets have priced in a rate rise to 4 per cent in June and another by year-end. The European Commission's sentiment survey on Thursday and the euro-zone purchasing managers' index on manufacturing the following day, both for May, are unlikely to change this view.
