The Institute of Public Administration (IPA) has increased its operating surplus from £239,317 (€303,870) in 1997 to £392,757 (€498,700) in 1998. Revenue grew from £7,049,859 to £7,798,930. Virtually all sources of income increased, with the exception of subscriptions which fell marginally from £238,195 to £234,613. The number of individual members, including students, amounted to 1,600 at the end of the year.

The biggest source of income was fees. These rose from £4,743,930 to £5,393,481. Revenue from the sale of publications went up from £539,734 to £654,836. The grant-in-aid from the Minister for Finance went up from £1,410,000 to £1,439,000.
