Letters go to TEAM workers today

Aer Lingus is to send out forms of acceptance again today to TEAM employees urging them to accept the offer of £54

Aer Lingus is to send out forms of acceptance again today to TEAM employees urging them to accept the offer of £54.5 million to buy out their guarantees of employment with the company. They are being sent to approximately 930 workers who did not return the original letters.

Acceptance of the offer is crucial for Aer Lingus as it would pave the way for selling the aircraft maintenance subsidiary to FLS Industries, a Danish conglomerate.

It is understood the end of June is still the deadline for wrapping up a deal. FLS suspended negotiations with Aer Lingus when only 600 TEAM workers or 40 per cent of the workforce, returned the original forms.

A four-page letter from change management consultant Mr John Behan will accompany the acceptance forms. The letter, which was sent to TEAM union representatives late last Friday, dismisses proposals from the craft group of unions, saying they would bankrupt the company.

The letter also says the proposals would threaten the future of the airline and that the only option is to accept the offer from FLS. The letter dismisses calls to give pay increases and bonuses which some unions say they missed out on over the past five years. The craft group of unions met on Tuesday evening to consider the letter, but has issued no formal response to it. It is understood no formal meetings between management and unions are planned at present.
