AFTER FOUR years in charge of UPC Ireland, Scotsman Robert Dunn is escaping the recession here to become managing director of the sister operation in the Netherlands. He will make the move next January.
UPC is in the process of “identifying a successor” for the Irish business, which has been turned around in recent years.
Dunn oversaw the integration of the former NTL and Chorus cable TV businesses, a multimillion euro investment in the network and a successful launch into the market for broadband and telephone services.
UPC, which is owned by US-listed company Liberty Global, is now a serious rival to Eircom for telecom customers here.
Ryanair’s decision to scale back its activities in Dublin airport has not stopped the low-cost carrier from opening a new route to Tallinn in Estonia.
It is one of seven routes that Ryanair will operate out of the Estonian capital and it will fly three times a week, starting in mid-December.

This must have been said through gritted teeth, given Michael O’Leary’s persistent criticisms of the State-owned airport manager.
Jameson Irish Whiskey has been awarded the Market Watch Spirit Brand of the Year in the United States.
Sales of Jameson are booming in the US. The company has increased by 700,000 the number of cases it shifts in the US since 1995 and it now holds a 72 per cent share of its category. Cheers.
