ONE EFFECT of the collapse of Setanta Sports is the impact on call centre operator Teleperformance, which handled subscriptions for the Irish broadcaster.

About 200 staff will be made redundant at offices in Newry and England. The contract is believed to have been worth about €5 million a year to the company.

Irish aviation executive Conor McCarthy is a busy man. Last week, he helped to negotiate a €2 billion deal for new aircraft for Air Asia, where he is a key investor.

A word about a new book detailing the history of Guinness and the St James’s Gate brewery in Dublin. Published to coincide with the stout’s 250th anniversary, it is written by Rory Guinness, whose father Benjamin was the last family member to chair the brewer. It’s a light read – just 64 pages – liberally sprinkled with fantastic photographs from the Guinness archive. It is available from the Guinness Storehouse for €8.
