German shares ended post-bourse computer trading in negative territory as a weaker Wall Street and dollar erased the market's earlier gains, dealers said. The IBIS DAX index, reflecting all-day computer trading, ended at 3983.06, having been as high as 4,046.70 earlier in the session.

French shares were the least hit by the general jitters, with losses limited by a firmer dollar tone and a hostile takeover bid by businessman, Mr Francois Pinault's holding company Artemis for financial group Worms.
