Frankfurt DAX: 4086.01 (-167.66) The Frankfurt market recovered marginally in after-hours electronic trading but still closed well down on the day. Official floor trading saw the Dax fall four per cent as dealers anticipated the opening on Wall Street and the move out of the dollar into the mark.

Paris CAC-40: 2904.23 (-53.00) French shares also closed down, but did not suffer the sort of losses as Frankfurt, but still closed nearly two per cent lower on the day.

Milan Mibtel: 14198 (-169) Italian shares fell by over one per cent, dragged lower by the opening 100-point losses on Wall Street.
