Builders McInerney recorded a strong 35 per cent rise in pre-tax profits to €19.1 million (£15.1 million) for 2000. Economic growth will boost all divisions this year and demographics will favour the house building division, managing director Mr Barry O'Connor has said.
While "nobody is immune" to a deteriorating economic environment, Mr O'Connor said McInerney was well placed for growth. The group would continue its policy of geographic diversification within the Irish market focusing on starter homes and seeking further investment opportunities in the UK market, he said. Group turnover was up 59 per cent to €174.3 million with operating profits 42.4 per cent ahead at €20.6 million.
