TELEPRINTER:TG4 HAS A new chairwoman, Siún Ní Raghallaigh, and six other new board members, but the final spot on the board of the national Irish language television service is yet to be filled.

Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte announced that Ní Raghallaigh, a former TG4 executive, financial controller of the Tribune Newspaper Group and managing director of independent television producer ikandi, will be the person overseeing the board as it enters a period of “opportunities and challenges”.

Other new appointees to the board are Des Geraghty, Michelle Ní Chróinín, Micheál Seoighe, Mairéad Ní Cheoinín, Andréa Ní hÉalaithe and Mairéad Nic Suibhe. Joe Connolly, Concubhar Ó Liatháin, Rónán Ó Coisdealbha and director general Pól Ó Gallchóir occupy four of the remaining five places.

The Minister is now awaiting one further nominee from the Oireachtas Joint Committee for Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture to bring membership of the board up to the dozen legislated for under the Broadcasting Act 2009.

A spokesman for the committee says the vacancy

will be advertised through Publicjobs.ieand that it is likely that a panel of nominees will be formed in case of board dropouts over the next few years.

As for those “opportunities and challenges”, the Minister cited the six-month countdown to

the switch-off of the analogue television signal, which, when it happens, could have long-term implications for TG4’s audience share.
