Mobile phones giant Motorola has warned it will report full-year operating losses for the first time in 45 years and plans to cut another 7,000 jobs worldwide to bring total jobs cuts this year to 39,000 jobs, or 26 per cent of its total workforce.
Motorola operates a software development centre in Cork which employs more than 400 people and a design centre also in Cork which employs 30 people. An IDA Ireland spokesman said it had had no indication from Motorola if any cuts were planned for Cork.
