US technology stocks roared higher yesterday, propelling the Nasdaq composite index to a new record and helping the Dow industrials extend its recovery from last week's steep sell-off.
The Nasdaq composite soared 118.72 to 4,696.57, easily surpassing its previous closing record of 4,617.65 set last Thursday.
Technology shares also boosted the Dow Jones industrial average, which gained 89.66 to 10,128.31. The Standard and Poor's 500 rose 18.36 to 1,366.41.
Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by a three-to-two margin on the New York Stock Exchange, with 1,825 up, 1,192 down and 501 unchanged.
The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies soared 20.04 to 577.72, a new record.
