New chief at institute

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland has appointed Mr Brian Walsh (right) as its new chief executive

The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Ireland has appointed Mr Brian Walsh (right) as its new chief executive. Mr Walsh, who has been deputy chief executive of the institute since 1997, succeeds Mr Sean Dorgan, who has been appointed chief executive of IDA Ireland.

Mr Walsh (54) has been secretary of the institute since 1993. He is a chartered accountant and has worked in business and in a number of accountancy practices, including Stokes Kennedy Crowley and Hayden Brown.

He also currently acts as secretary to the inquiry into the conduct of members of the institute arising out of the McCracken report into payments to politicians. The inquiry is chaired by Mr Justice John Blayney.
