NUI develops software to study psychoactive drugs

A new software package for the study of psychoactive drugs has been developed at the Pharmacology Department at NUI, Galway

A new software package for the study of psychoactive drugs has been developed at the Pharmacology Department at NUI, Galway. Commissioned by the University of Bath-based PCCAL (Pharmacy Consortium for Computer Aided Learning), the package is the first of its kind to be developed outside Britain and the first biomedical package to be produced in Ireland for worldwide distribution. The package, which is used in colleges internationally, has also attracted interest from industry for in-house training programmes. Already pharmaceutical companies, Glaxo and Pfizer are using PCCAL software in their employee education programmes. It has now been translated into German for export by NUI, Galway ERASMUS students, Domenica Flury and Ute Bartels, and there are further plans to produce French and Spanish translations.
