O'Brien's Sandwich Bars has unveiled a new store design to more than 500 franchisees in Dublin.

The company, founded 10 years ago by Mr Brody Sweeney, has been battling to update its offering to cater to customers' changing tastes.

"Sales in our first test store in Northern Ireland have hit the roof since it opened with the store's extended offering ready to compete in the highly competitive fast food, coffee and sandwich market," said Mr Sweeney.

The new stores feature a wider range of made to order foods, including salads, wraps and toasted sandwiches.

They also feature juice bars and a greater focus on ethically produced food.

"Our third-generation store retains our core brand values of healthy, fresh, made-to-order food and quality customer service, as well as a more ethical way of doing business," said Mr Sweeney.

While sandwiches remain its core offering, O'Brien's says that coffee sales have more than trebled in the past two years.

O'Brien's now has 270 franchise outlets in 13 countries around the world. The group's franchisees saw the store design at Dublin's Mansion House during the group's annual conference.
