Revenue PAYE offices are under pressure from the weight of queries from taxpayers on the new tax credits form. Frustrated callers complain they are unable to get through to get answers to their queries.

A Revenue official said: "The phone lines to PAYE offices are always busy at this time of year. This year, the problem has been exacerbated by the changes to the form."
