Minders spoke into their sleeves and surveyed the crowds, as the world's most expensive mobile phone was unveiled in the Carphone Warehouse outlet in Grafton Street.

The NEC DB2000, described as the "ultimate style statement" and encased in platinum, looks like a regular mobile, but with a price tag of £10,000 should not be left behind in the pub, or accidentally dropped on the ground. Holding it to your ear for long periods may also be a problem, as it weighs a hefty 275 grams.

However, most mobile phone users will never have to consider such risks, as there are only 10 NEC DB2000s in the world.
