Stock prices closed mixed yesterday after a choppy session in New York that saw some profit-taking in blue chips and renewed interest in technology shares. At the close of trading on Wall Street, the Dow Jones industrial average was off 24.34 - or 0.2 per cent - at 11,007.25. The blue chip index fluctuated between positive and negative territory throughout the session.
Broader stock indicators were mixed. The Standard and Poor's 500 fell 4.70 to 1,340.30, and the Nasdaq composite rose 22.76 to 2,526.38.
The NYSE composite index fell 1.90 to 639.34, and the American Stock Exchange composite index fell 0.21 to 787.08.
The Russell 2000 index of smaller companies rose 4.90 to 441.01.
