The Republic continues to attract a disproportionate amount of inward investment from US manufacturers, ranking as the fourth most popular destination in Europe and the sixth most popular in the world for US manufacturing.
According to the latest biennial report on US manufacturing investment trends produced by Ernst & Young, Ireland attracted 68 projects in the three year period 1995-97.
Of the 68 projects undertaken in Ireland, 66 per cent were plant expansions compared with 48 per cent in Britain and 45 per cent in France.
